Bachkovo Monastery, a spring of miracles
Spring water revives a centuries-old tradition on the Feast of the Assumption at the holy monastery
Bachkovo Monastery is one of the most mystical places in Bulgaria. For centuries thousands of believers have flocked there to touch the magnetism of the holy monastery. Many legends are told about miracles that have taken place over the years, from the healing of the incurably ill to the conception of children by barren women.
On 15 August the monastery’s patronal feast, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is solemnly celebrated.
Pilgrims pour out their pains and sufferings before the wonder-working icon and return home spiritually uplifted. For centuries the icon in Bachkovo Monastery has been said to have saved many believers. Its power is to help the sick and the childless, which is why the face of the Mother of God is considered miraculous.
By tradition, from the day before hundreds of believers arrive from all parts of the country, the monastery stays open all night, and many people remain to spend the night within its grounds.
The beauty of the region is not limited to the holy monastery. The Bachkovo Balkan is full of natural wonders and clear springs. There, 1.5 km from the monastery, is Bachkovo spring water. Over the centuries these springs have given life-sustaining water to the believers visiting the second-largest monastery in Bulgaria.
For several years now Bachkovo spring water has continued the centuries-old tradition and looked after everyone who has come to touch the miraculous icon, by giving them a bottle of water. It gushes from a natural spring, is completely natural and is suitable for the whole family.
The naturally determined composition and content of minerals and salts in Bachkovo spring water make it exceptionally suitable for the development of children from the earliest age and for the very old, and allow it to be consumed without restriction. The spring water combines two advantages: an alkaline-acid balance and the transfer of energy from a mountain spring, namely a natural captured spring located in the reserve.
