For the third year running, the Plovdiv Runs association organised the amateur mountain race “Smolyan Lakes 2017” with the assistance of Smolyan Municipality. The main sponsor and partner of the event is Bachkovo spring water. The route is the same one on which the World Junior Mountain Running Championships were held two years ago. It passes three lakes, as well as the tree on which the lyre of Orpheus is painted. There are three distances, depending on the abilities and wishes of the participants: 1, 3 and 5 laps. Both competitors and amateurs lined up at the start. Ten participants finished the different distances (from 1.80 km to 9.00 km), and once again Geno Uvardov was ahead of everyone with a time of 52 min 12 sec. The mountain route has an elevation change of about 700 m. The intention is for next year’s mountain race to go to Snezhanka peak and back.
