OPERA OPEN 2020 captivates the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv once again

OPERA OPEN 2020 continues the decades-long tradition of opera performances and concerts on the stage of the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, with this year’s edition focused on the great Bulgarian names in opera. The festival’s guests will be four generations of performers who have made Bulgaria famous on the world’s greatest opera stages. The prima donna Raina Kabaivanska will attend in person to mark the 20th anniversary of her international master class at NBU (New Bulgarian University) and to present the Italian star Vittoria Yeo, who studied under the legendary Bulgarian. Another native of Plovdiv, the mezzo-soprano Mariana Pencheva, with a long career in the biggest European opera houses, including La Scala, will perform alongside the world-famous Kiril Manolov, who was proclaimed “Musician of the Year 2019” after his role in Opera Plovdiv’s “Falstaff”. One of the most sought-after Bulgarian tenors, with appearances in Europe, North America and Asia, Kamen Chanev, will take part in the opening gala performance “The Gates of Sleep”. The multi-genre platform OPERA OPEN of Opera Plovdiv has welcomed to the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv some of the leading soloists from the biggest opera and ballet stages. Names such as Paata Burchuladze, Hui He, Ana Lucrecia García, José Cura, Elisabeth Strid, Donata Lombardi, Alberto Gazale, Christian Benedict, Lila Lee, performers from the Volksoper Vienna and the Budapest Operetta Theatre, principal dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre and many others. “Nova Trade” continues its tradition of supporting the development of culture and the arts.
